Originally by: Betji I'm a veteran MMORPGer of more than 10 years, and really enjoy working with people in teams, and interacting with interesting RPers. I've been in EVE about a month now, shooting level 1 fish in a barrel first with missile frigates, and now wholesale with a cruiser.
Even if I do find a corp, I'm not sure I'll be able to do anything interesting with most of its members for months, maybe years, given the level of expertise of the veterans out there. I'm beginning to think this isn't the game for me. Am I missing something?
You claim you are a veteran MMORPGer... yet you complain about how long it takes to run with the veterans.
I have tried Guild Wars, WoW too. I can tell you, first hand, if you aren't top level in either of those games no one is going to take you on in a useful way. Not level 80? Forget about going with your buddies on a raid. Furthermore, you can forget about even being able to hit an opponent if you are 15 levels below him.
So in those other MMORPGs, as you should know, unless you grind and ding the level cap, you are always useless and ignored by other "guild mates" when they do their thing.
In EVE, if you shoot a big bad ship, you'll cause damage. In EVE you can have a real job with the big dogs in 0.0 within a week or two.

How long before ratting has some challenge? How many months do you need to wait before a Corp with veteran fighters will find you interesting and useful? Are there ANY Caldari RP corps left with people active at my gaming time?
Oh, and before you plug Eve University, it's currently not useful for my purposes (i.e., playing WITH people and socialization) due to it being under a war dec. Join that would be like hanging a "please grief me" banner on all my ships.
To be fair, with EVE University under wardec, then you'll be socializing quite a bit I'm sure.
Anyways, just like other games... when you are newb then the monsters will be easy. As you get stronger so do the monsters. When you get to 0.0 ratting will get more challanging, as will low-sec ratting. Also as you do bigger and better missions, those too will get more challanging.
Currently, with the introduction to worm holes, those apparently are really difficult as some veterans have lost large capital ships to the worm hole rats.
Just give it time.
